The Clangers

The Soup Dragon The Clangers logo The Clangers, having just launched something

The Clangers lived on a faraway planet, which strangely resembled the moon. They used to go about their everyday lives as you and me would, except they communicated through high-pitched whistles, which many people try to imitate even today. They lived down holes which were covered by bin lids, which used to make a clanging noise as they put them down, hence the name the Clangers.

There was a whole family of Clangers, and characters included Tiny Clanger, Little Clanger, Master Clanger and Grandma Clanger and also the Soup Dragon, who they would collect soup off.

The Clangers was a result of the duo of Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin, who were also responsible for Pogle's wood and Ivor the Engine. It was actually made before the Eighties, but it would be criminal to miss out this bizarre, much-loved and classic animation.
