Muppet Babies
Created by Jim Henson, this cartoon was a spin off of the Muppets show. Each episode lasted approximately 20 minutes and was made between 15th September 1984 and 5th of September 1992. Britain first saw this cartoon in 1989 as part of the Saturday morning show Going Live.
The Muppet Babies lived in a big house with their nanny who was never seen properly to the viewers. Mostly they would stay in their nursery and play with their toys, but sometimes they would venture to other parts of the house such as the kitchen at meal-time. They would also get into adventures which were often mere daydreams, often of what they wanted to be when they were older.
Characters were as follows: Kermit, the frog who was level headed and kind; Miss Piggy who was vain, bossy and quick-tempered and wanted to be a Hollywood movie star, and also had a crush on Kermit; Fozzie, the bear who wanted to be a comedian and would always tell bad jokes followed by the words " wokka wokka wokka " before ending up with tomatoes in his face-he also came across as not too bright; Gonzo, with his toy chicken Camilla, and who was basically a weirdo who fancied Miss Piggy almost as much as she fancied Kermit; Rowlf, the cultured dog who was a talented musician and played on his toy piano, often; Skeeter, the tomboy who was always moving about and who wanted to be an olympic champion; Skooter, her twin brother who was a computer nerd, and would rather sit reading a book than play with the others; Animal, the annoying baby animal who played with Gonzo, and was somewhat boisterous and destructive, and, finally, nanny, who looked after them all. She was always calm and gentle towards them and made their lunch. She would check on them all occasionally at which point viewers would see her legs only.
Muppet Babies was one of the best Saturday morning cartoons I can remember, and a great American import, with some very memorable characters.
