Other kids' programmes of the 1980s

This page is devoted to kids' programmes of the 1980s which I remember watching, but don't remember enough about/can't be bothered to write full pages about. Some of these may actually have full pages devoted to them, at a later date. As you can see, quite a few come under this category.

. Alfonso Bonzo - About some kid, Billy Webb, who liked to swap things, and who met this Italian bloke ( Alfonso Bonzo ) who, errr, liked swapping things. This programme was a lot better than it sounds, and had a cool theme tune. Had a spin-off series, Billy Webb's amazing stories.

. Bad Boyes - About this lad, Brian Arthur Derek Boyes, who was cunning, and got into a lot of money making schemes and stuff. Bit of a smartass, really, just like yours truly. He got pushed about by three bullies, Slug, Juggs and Wally, I think. Had a horrible teacher, Mr Wiggis, who he always outsmarted ( and who was played by a bloke who looked like John Cleese ). Made in 1987. Written by Jim and Duncan Eldridge. Class.

. Bagpuss - About some toy cat that lived in some toyshop ( which, strangely enough, didn't sell anything ) and came to life. This was recently voted as the nation's most loved children's programme.

. Banana Splits - Some weird dudes dressed up in outfits and used up a lot of energy, by running around. Also drove their " Banana Buggies ". Each episode also featured a short comic-strip adventure. Also, a very catchy theme tune.

. Beat the teacher - Quiz show where pupils would play against their teachers, and try to beat them, hence the name of the show. Hosted by Bruno Brookes.

. Bodger and Badger - Sit-com style programme which lasted 15 minutes. Lasted from 1989 to 1999. About a bloke called Simon and his pet badger, who loved mashed potato - and throwing it about. Simon was a handyman in a school in the earlier serieses and got bossed about by a formidable headmistress. He later moved to working at a theme park, before doing odd jobs for various people. Quite a good programme, with quite a good theme tune.

. Button Moon - Popular programme, included Mr Spoon, who went up to Button Moon.

. Charlie Chalk - By Woodland animations, and about a clown, who lived on the island of Merrytwit, and lived in a mobile home. Other characters included: Arnold, the clumsy, stupid pink elephant; Captain Mildred, a bossy bitch who ordered them all about; Edward, the sleepy one; Trader Jones, the...trader; The Litterbug, who picked up litter and Bert.

. Chucklevision - Top show. One of the funniest ever to be shown on CBBC. Chucklevision was "the successor" of Chucklehounds, and started in 1987, but in a different format to today's. It was firstly a Saturday morning show, and with a more typical Saturday morning style format. Paul and Barry ( the Chuckle brothers ), spoke to viewers directly. The show moved to its present, sit-com style format, in 1989, and is still going strong after 15 serieses. The show features the Chuckle brothers, Paul and Barry, doing odd jobs for people and messing them up. Barry is the smaller, perhaps stupider of the two, while Paul is the more lazy, arrogant one who is usually more to blame when things go wrong, despite Barry always getting the blame. The actors who play the Chuckle brothers, Paul and Barry Patton, come from a family with a history of being in showbizness, and have two brothers who have appeared on the show, mainly Jimmy, who often plays a boss of theirs, and who often says "No slacking". In my opinion, both the show and the actors are under-rated. Long live Chucklevision.

. Dastardly and Muttley - Need I say more? The nasty bloke with the brown dog who laughed a laugh that sounded like someone having an asthma attack.

. Dizzy Heights Hotel - Fawlty Towers for kids, perhaps. Basically a hotel run ( poorly ) by two blokes. Had regulars, the Gristle family, a couple with a son called Eustace. Each episode lasted 25 minutes and was on between 4.35 and 5.00, if I remember correctly. Very funny programme.

. Dogtanian - *Insert good description, here*

. Fingermouse - The spin-off of Fingerbobs. Made in 1985, and 15 minutes long, was each episode. Had the Music Man as well, who would explore a different musical instrument each week. Also included, were a few of Fingermouse's paper animal friends. You could send off for a factsheet on how to make your own Fingermouse, but I didn't..*sighs*.

. Fireman Sam - A fireman, living in the fictional Welsh village of Pontypandy. Other characters included: Trevor Evans, a minibus driver; Bella, an Italian who ran a restaurant; Norman Price, a naughty boy with a skateboard; His mum, a very stressed, highly strung woman; James and Sarah, some kids; Cridlington, a fireman who was thick, but a good cook. Put out numerous fires, a great majority of these being in Bella's cafe. A bloody nice bloke, basically.

. Gruey - Some teenager and his friends' escapades. Quite a good programme, on in about 1988/1989.

. Heathcliff - About a super-cool cat, who resembled Garfield. This had a very, very cool theme tune.

. He-man - ITV show, very popular.

. Inspector Gadget - Made into a film. I remember it being shown on Channel Four, Saturday or Sunday mornings.

. Jonny Briggs - About a kid ( Jonny Briggs ) and his large family, consisting of "mam", dad ( played by Leslie Schofield, who went on to be in Eastenders ), Humphrey, Albert, "our Rita" ( played by Sue Devaney, who went on to be in Casualty ) and Marilyn ( never seen ). Set in Yorkshire, England. He also had a dog called Razzle, who had a thing for eating gingerbread men and whatever he wasn't supposed to. Very cool programme, on in about 1986. Don't know what became of "Jonny", though.

. Jossie's Giants - About a very poor Sunday League football team in the North of England. Renford Rejects of the 80s, perhaps.

. King Rollo - About a king ( who, although rather childish, seemed too intelligent to be a king ) and his life. Other characters included Hamlet the cat, a magician and a cook.

. Mick and Mac - Shown at 4 pm, Wednesdays, CBBC, Jan 3rd - Mar 28th, 1990. Featured Michael Barrymore, in his more innocent days, long before his homosexual affair revelations, mental health problems and death inquests. Anyway, this was a sketch based comedy, about a cartoonist and his friend, who looked like a lump of tar ( Mac, David Jarvis ).

. Mighty Mouse - Rather self-explanatory.

. Mop and Smiff - Not very well remembered cartoon about a cat and a dog.

. Mr Men - Cool cartoon, about a land of little, errr, men. Included Mr Happy, Mr Topsy-Turvy, Mr Small, Mr Greedy etc. Each episode focussed on a particular one, but others of them came into each episode.

. Mysterious Cities of Gold - I don't remember enough about this to even write anything about it.

. Penelope Pitstop - Glamorous woman dressed in pink, who raced in a pink car.

. Postman Pat - First shown in 1983. About the friendliest, most helpful post man ever. Set in Greendale, supposedly in Cumbria. He had a cat, Jess. Other characters included: Miss Goggins, who worked in the Post Office; Granny Dryden, a senile old cow who Pat had the misfortune of delivering to; Ted Glen, a bloke who was good practically; Alf Pottage, a farmer; George Lancaster, another farmer; Julian, Pat's son. Others cropped up, but I cannot be bothered to mention them. Anyway, this programme was well made.

. Potsworth and Company - Made around 1990. About 4 kids who, when asleep, all met up in the Dream Zone, and fought the Nightmare Prince and stuff.

. Radio Roo - This bloke and a kangaroo by the name of Clive, ran a radio station in the front room of a house. Called, you guessed it, Radio Roo.

. Roland Rat - First seen on TV-AM, but soon got his own show. Basically a big-earred rat, who was also a DJ.

. Roobarb - Made in 1974, and narrated by Richard Briers. Had a very catchy theme tune.

. Rude Dog and the Dweebs - About a supposedly cool dog called Rude Dog, who hung around with other dogs, known as the dweebs. This cartoon was enough to give one a phobia of dogs for life.

. Rupert - This was first made in about 1989, as a 5 minute cartoon, shown on CBBC and narrated by Richard Briers, before a longer, American version was shown on CITV.

. She-Ra - A heroin.

. Spiderman - A cross between a spider and a man, surprisingly.

. Wacky Races - Merged numerous Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters, and had them racing each other.

. Willy Fog - A smooth talking lion who went around the world in 80 days. Good on him.

. Yogi Bear- There can't be anyone who doesn't remember this, the cartoon set in Jellystone National Park, about a bear who had a massive ego, and described himself as " smarter than the average bear ".

. You and Me - About 2 puppets, Cosmo and Dibbs, who spoke with Geordie accents, and looked and sounded a bit like Zig and Zag.
