Pigeon Street
This was like a soap opera for kids. Indeed, it can be likened to Coronation Street, in as much that the houses in it looked similar to those in Coronation Street, and it had the word ' street ' in the title.
It concerned the residents of the street, and their lives. Main characters included: Long distance Clara, who drove the truck; Hugo the chef, who was married to her; Mr Baskerville, who always had a magnifying glass on him, wore a Sherlock Holmes style hat, and always had a big dog with him; Mr Jupiter, a friend of Mr Baskerville, who also had a dog, and a long white beard; Daisy and Rose, the two old women who argued with each other outside their upstairs windows, often about their windowboxes. Also seen were The Macadoo family, consisting of: Mr Mcadoo the vet; his wife, and their three children, Polly, Molly and, err, another one. Other characters included a window cleaner and his wife, a bicycle shop owner, and the pigeons themselves - hence the name of the street.
Pigeon Street had a very catchy theme tune, starting " If you lived in Pigeon Street, here are the people you could meet" The programme was first aired in 1981, with a second series, I believe, being made in 1985. It has not been repeated since the Eighties. It was a big feature of CBBC, and was very popular.
