Stoppit and Tidyup

The rubbish dump, where Stoppit lived Stoppit and Tidyup logo Stoppit and Tidyup, outside Tidyup's house

Stoppit, a mischievous looking creature lived in a dump. Tidyup lived across the bridge in a neat and tidy little gherkin house.

Those two were the main characters, but others included: Go and play with his favourite toy, who wore a football kit and carried a toy car; Brush your teeth; and the big bad " I said no. "

I don't know quite what to say. This cartoon which lasted five minutes and was narrated by Terry Wogan (surely his finest hour and the only reason why he now does Children in Need) was bizarre in the extreme, but this kind of weirdness appealed to its audience. It was very different to all other cartoons, which is probably why it remains a firm favourite with so many.

What happened in each episode? Basically one particular character was concentrated on in each episode (although other ones would come in) and their little lives. Perhaps these bizarre names that the characters had, such as the aforementioned brush your teeth, along with others such as "comb your hair" and "don't do that" were designed to sound like what our mums had said to us within the last week, and were trying to teach us what we should and shouldn't do. I'll stop now, before I drive myself even more insane than I already am.
