Superted

OK, so a lot of cartoon super heros don't exactly look the part, but Superted took the p**s. Him being able to fight off bad guys was a joke, Christ, he spoke like a five-year-old who had just inhaled a great amount of helium. Even Bananaman looked more the part. Anyway, he was just an ordinary teddy bear being made in the factory, probably to be sold in a toyshop to kids. However, the factory found something wrong with him, and "threw him away like a piece of rubbish" into an old dark storeroom. Then, from outer space, a spotty man bought him back to life with his cosmic dust, and took him to a magic cloud where mother nature gave him magic powers, and hey presto, Superted was born.

Superted lived in a spacestation which he kindly shared with his rescuer and accomplice, Spotty (well it was surely the very least he could do for someone who rescued him). Spotty was a very strange looking yellow thing, with green spots and an extremely unfortunate voice. Even Superted's voice would be preferable to his. Superted was a normal bear at times, but all he had to do was whisper to himself his magic word (which I spent ages with my ear to the screen trying to make out, and always used to hazard guesses as to what it was) and he became Superted, complete with the ability to fly and a rather fetching red cape.

His main aim in life seemed to be to outpower the bad guys, namely the terrible trio: Texas Pete, the cowboyish leader; the appropriately named Bulk, and the rather camp, Skeleton. Am I the only one who sees the similarities between this trio and that of the Dingles of Emmerdale? Zak Dingle is like Texas pete, Bulk was like Butch in terms of brainpower and build and Skeleton could be Sam Dingle. Just an observation.

Anyway, Superted always managed to outwit or outfight this trio (not bad for a teddybear that was thrown away, although I wouldn't want him in my bedroom, so perhaps it was for the best, or fate).

Superted was shown on BBC 1 in about 1989-1991, and was a good cartoon, with some memorable characters.
